In 2 Samuel the history of Israel's theocratic kingdom moves to the reign of David, the "man after God's heart." We learn a great deal about the nature of sin, grace, and redemption from this book - in spite of being "God's man," David had periods of his life marked by great sin. But God never let go of David, and by His grace, He brought David to repentance. 2 Samuel 7 contains the great covenant promise of God to David, which is fulfilled in the Lord Jesus Christ.
