David has received the promise of God, and he responds with prayer – praising the Lord and praying the promise back to him. What is next? After 2 Samuel 7 comes… 2 Samuel 8 (surprise!). We see God bringing about the success of David’s kingdom, fulfilling both His promise to David and His ancient promise to Abraham. David defeats the enemies of the kingdom all around him: west, east, north, and south. In every instance “the Lord gave victory to David.” This is more than history to us. It is also a pattern that we can see the Lord working in our day. There is nothing that can stand against the establishment of the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is David’s greater son; He is the one who reigns forever and ever. And His reign is one that blesses and protects us. Take great hope when you see “The Kingdom Established” (2 Samuel 8:1-18).
