The King in Exile

November 7, 2021 Speaker: Fred Greco Series: 2 Samuel

Topic: AM Service Passage: 2 Samuel 16:1–23

David’s sad flight from Jerusalem continues. Absalom has sprung his rebellion, and David goes into exile to avoid the destruction of the sacred city and to gather his loyalists. In chapter 15, we saw three friends of David encourage him: Ittai, Zadok, and Hushai. Now we see three enemies come into the picture: Ziba, Shimei, and Ahithophel. But before we speak too quickly about what is happening, we need to look closely at how the Lord continues to stand by David even “in the presence of his enemies” (to quote Psalm 23!). When we are discouraged, it is helpful for us to remember how God was with “The King in Exile” (2 Samuel 16:1-23).

I. Deception that Provides (16:1-4)

II. Hatred that Highlights (16:5-14)

III. Wickedness that Reveals the Truth (16:15-23)
