One of the most significant disconnects between our culture and the Bible is with respect to the role and importance of fathers. Our culture treats fathers, at best, indifferently and, at worst, negatively. But fathers are a blessing to the family and have been given a crucial role. Fathers lead the family and are called to point their wives and children to Christ. Fathers are to disciple and encourage their children. The Bible shows us that fathers are to be respected and encouraged to take up their responsibilities with an eye toward the Lord. As we continue to think about the family, we would do well to consider “Fathers: Leading and Forming” (Malachi 4:5-6; Hebrews 12:7-11; Ephesians 6:4).
