Seeking the Kingdom

Topic: AM Service Passage: Matthew 6:10
When Jesus gave His disciples a model prayer, two of the six petitions were concerned with the Kingdom of God. He taught us that we are to pray that the Lord’s Kingdom would come and that His will would be done on earth as it is in heaven. This prayer should orient our thinking about God’s sovereign rule in the world and our lives. First, this is a daily prayer – these petitions are linked with clear daily needs such as our food, our need for forgiveness, and strength to overcome daily temptations. So our longing for the Lord’s Kingdom should be daily on our minds, hearts, and lips. Second, this is an instructive prayer – it teaches us that there is no Kingdom like our Lord’s. His will is done in heaven, where the sinless angels dwell and the saints await the resurrection. The believer must be “Seeking the Kingdom” (Matthew 6:10).
