Ruler and Remnant

March 8, 2020 Speaker: Fred Greco Series: Micah

Topic: AM Service Passage: Micah 5:1–15

What is the hope for the world? What is my hope? Hope can be hard to find, especially when it seems that the Lord is chastening His people for their sins. The prophet Micah certainly knew what it was like to call people to account for their sins. The first three chapters of Micah are filled with pronouncements of judgment upon the people of God for their rebellion and sin. But in chapter 5, Micah gives us a clear message of hope. He provides us with a picture of the one who will put all things right and who will establish God’s kingdom forever – the Messiah who is to come. This coming Ruler will protect and purify God’s people, bringing peace and blessing. When we trust what the Lord tells us in His Word, we can truly have hope. God’s Word promises blessing through the “Ruler and Remnant” (Micah 5:1-15).

I. The Coming Ruler
A. The Setting for His Coming
B. The Statement of the Lord’s Work
C. The Security He Brings

II. The Delivered Remnant
A. A Protected People
B. A Prominent People
C. A Pure People

Questions for consideration: (1) Why do you think the Lord chooses the weak and obscure things of the world to show Himself? (2) How do you make known to others around you the difference Jesus has made in your life? (3) What is the Lord doing in your life to purify you? How is He separating you from sin and reliance on other things?
