Grace and Unity in the Church

Topic: AM Service Passage: Romans 12:3–8
The Lord builds His Church through His people. He does not have to do that, but He has chosen to do so. For that reason, the Lord gives gifts to His people for the benefit of the whole body of Christ. His grace is evident in those gifts – and for that reason, we are called not to be proud of our gifts, but instead to serve others in humility. How we view ourselves is very important – neither thinking too highly or too lowly of ourselves, but instead to keep in view the purpose of Jesus Christ in using us to build up His Church. That is how we find “Grace and Unity in the Church” (Romans 12:3-8).
I. Acknowledge Grace
A. Grace Gives Gifts
B. Grace is for All
II. Think Soberly
A. Not High-Minded
B. Not False Humility
III. Recognize Unity
A. Need Not Be the Same
B. Need to Serve Others
Questions for consideration: (1) Why is it important to see that God gives gifts to all believers? What is the danger of denying your own gifts? (2) In what ways are you tempted to be high minded? In what ways are you tempted to false humility? (3) What is the danger to your participation in the Church of viewing everyone’s gifts as the same? The danger if you do not serve others?
