The Promise of the Spirit

Topic: AM Service Passage: John 14:15–24
Often the Person and Work of the Holy Spirit is misunderstood. Either He is viewed as some kind of “force” that allows believers to do miraculous things that call attention to them rather than Him, or He is a sort of forgotten, “also-ran” member of the Trinity. But in His final discourse with His disciples, Jesus gives us a proper perspective on the Holy Spirit. He begins by promising to send to them the Spirit. We can fail to see the incredible import of this promise. Jesus is telling them, and us, that we will have the Spirit forever and that will separate us from the world. The Holy Spirit is the One who gives us the ability to obey Jesus’ commands and who is the assurance of the love of the Father and the Son. We must grasp and be thankful for “The Promise of the Spirit” (John 14:15-24).
