Peter's Overconfidence

Topic: AM Service Passage: John 13:36–38
We often think that we can do things that are beyond our capabilities. This is bad enough when we attempt a project beyond our expertise or take on more work than we have hours in the day, but in the spiritual realm, the consequences can be devastating. Peter faced this reality when he declared that he would lay down his life for Jesus. That bold statement would prove untrue within a matter of hours. But even more problematic was Peter’s thought that Jesus needed Peter to die for Him – the exact opposite was true! We can and should learn from Peter’s failure and not imitate “Peter’s Overconfidence” (John 13:36-38).
