A New Commandment

Topic: AM Service Passage: John 13:31–35
Over and over again in the Gospel of John we have seen that the Lord Jesus Christ came to change the world completely. He came to redeem a people for Himself and to do away with sin and death. But we also know that there is a period between Jesus’ first advent (birth) and His second (return in glory). In that time the Church that Jesus has redeemed has the task of sharing the gospel and showing the difference that Jesus makes. Now that Judas has departed, Jesus gives his “Farewell Discourse” to the disciples, giving them their marching orders for the Kingdom. It is unsurprising that the very first thing Jesus emphasizes is that love should be the hallmark of his disciples. He gives them (and us!) “A New Commandment” (John 13:31-35) that we love one another, just as He has loved us.
I. Glorified by Love
II. United by Love
III. Marked by Love
