In chapter 12 of his gospel, John turns to the last week of Jesus’ life. The Savior begins that week with a dinner with His friends, Lazarus, Martha, and Mary. Although His entire life and ministry had been building up to this time, His disciples still failed to see what was before them. But then John describes a remarkable scene in which Mary anoints Jesus with expensive ointment. Her actions, as well as the response from Judas, give us insight into the different types of hearts of mankind. Jesus tells us how we are to respond to “The Anointing of the Savior” (John 12:1-8).
