One of the most fascinating things about John’s gospel is that he shows us Jesus in all His power and glory. We may think we know who Jesus is – but John gives encounter after encounter with Jesus that stretches our perceptions. Jesus comes back to Jerusalem and comes across a multitude of needy and suffering people at the Sheep Gate pool. He sovereignly chooses one man with whom to initiate a conversation and then proceeds to say things that we do not expect. But Jesus knows this man (and us!) better than we do. He is coming to provide “Healing at the Pool” (John 5:1-9) in such a way that the man will never be the same again.
