Different people come to the Lord Jesus Christ in different ways. We see this in the gathering of the disciples at the beginning of John’s Gospel. Jesus asked John and Andrew, “what are you seeking?” Andrew brought his brother Peter to Jesus. Phillip heard “follow me,” obeyed, and then brought Nathaniel to Jesus.  When John relates these events, he does so for a reason beyond the bare facts. He does so to show us more about who Jesus is. When Nathaniel meets Jesus, he learns that he is entirely open to and known by Jesus. And Jesus takes this opportunity to show us more of His divinity with two references to Old Testament visions. This is “Heaven Opened Up” in the Person of the Savior.
