The Power and Danger of the Tongue

February 9, 2020 Speaker: Jason Wegener Series: James

Topic: AM Service Passage: James 3:1–12

The book of James is filled with many practical guidelines and directions for the Christian life. One area that James deals with quite extensively is how we use our tongues. James has already told us that if a person’s tongue is uncontrolled, then that person’s religion is worthless (James 1:26). But in chapter 3, James develops this topic more fully and shows us that the tongue is powerful and dangerous. Additionally, it is an indicator of what is really in our hearts. It truly is the barometer of the soul. It is only as we look to Christ and trust in Him that we can use our tongue in a way that glorifies God.
