In chapter 56, Isaiah begins a new section of his book. After having given the exiles in Babylon the hope of a future homecoming, he sets his sights on the wider Kingdom of God. Isaiah had previously prophesied: “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel;  I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth” (49:6). Now Isaiah starts to describe what that will look like: foreigners and eunuchs will come into the presence of the Lord and will have an everlasting name. What a blessing that we can hear about the God who gathers to Himself the outcasts! This is God’s “Salvation for the World” (Isaiah 56:1-8).
