During Isaiah’s ministry, God’s people had plenty of reasons to be fearful. Enemies were everywhere, war was always on the horizon, and immorality was rampant. In fact, the Lord warned them over and over again that His judgment would come down because of their sin and idolatry. If that sounds familiar, it should. We, too, live in a frightening world where ungodliness abounds. The good news for Judah is the same good news we have. God is sovereign over all creation and He has set His covenant love on His people. Because of that, we can hear God’s call to “Fear Not” (Isaiah 41:1-29).
