Topic: AM Service Passage: Isaiah 28:1–29
In chapter 28, Isaiah begins to bring a message to Israel and Judah in the midst of very dark times. Israel is about to be overrun by Assyria, and Judah fears the same. But in spite of previous warnings, Judah seeks help and safety in a human alliance with an ancient enemy, Egypt, rather than looking to the Lord. Isaiah tells them that this is a vain pursuit, with no more chance of success than Israel’s political maneuvers. The Lord is the one who has laid the foundation for safety and blessing, and whoever looks to him will be saved. This passage was often used by the New Testament authors to point to Jesus Christ, who is “The Precious Cornerstone.” (Isaiah 28:1-29)
