High Priestly Prayer: Christ’s Work

Topic: AM Service Passage: John 17:4–5
Last week, we looked at the beginning of Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer, specifically at the opening section, where He prays for Himself. Our Lord prayed that the Father would glorify Him and that He would glorify the Father through giving eternal life to those whom the Father had given to Him. In verses four and five of chapter 17, Jesus now prays that He has accomplished the work of salvation that the Father has given to Him; and that He would return to the glory He had with the Father before creation itself. It is important for us to think about what Jesus accomplished so that we sinners could be forgiven and reconciled to God. It is a work that only Jesus could do. It is a work that is finished and available to all who trust Jesus by faith. Let us stop and listen to the “High Priestly Prayer: Christ’s Work” (John 17:4-5).
