Before Abraham Was, I Am

Topic: AM Service Passage: John 8:48–59
Too often, the modern conception of Jesus is that He was too kind, accommodating, and inclusive. Because of this, the religious leaders rejected and hated Him, or so the story goes. But the Bible presents a very different picture. The leaders hated Jesus not because they did not understand what He was saying, nor because they wanted to be more restrictive than Him, but because they understood that Jesus taught that the only way of salvation was to believe in Him and His Word (John 8:24, 51). Jesus alone has eternal life; Jesus alone truly knows the Father; and Jesus alone is God. No other man is like Jesus – only Jesus is God and man. Jesus reminds us that the father of all the faithful, Abraham, rejoiced to see Jesus’ day. That is because “Before Abraham Was, I Am.” (John 8:48-59)
