At the conclusion of His confrontation with the Pharisees, Jesus shows us that it is not enough merely to have the Bible. The Bible is essential. The Bible is God’s Word. But we must come to the Bible to see what God has given to us. The Bible’s value is that it is God’s true Word that testifies to Jesus. When we bring our own purposes and motives to the Bible, we miss Jesus, making us miss everything. The Scriptures reveal the Person and work of the Savior, Jesus Christ, who is our only hope. When we open our Bibles, may it be to see “Scripture’s Witness to Christ” (John 5:39-47).
