Believing and Seeing

Topic: AM Service Passage: John 4:43–54
At the end of the fourth chapter of his Gospel, John shows Jesus doing a second great sign. After the remarkable incident in Samaria where many come to believe in Him as the Savior of the world, Jesus comes back to His home country in Galilee. At first, it appears that His countrymen are excited to see Him, but there is an odd parenthesis in verse 44: “For Jesus Himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in his own hometown.” We begin to see that the residents did not want Jesus as much as they wanted His miracles and wonders. But John reports to us the story of a royal official whose circumstances have focused him on what is important – his son is dying and needs Jesus. This provides the occasion for a miracle and for the man to have faith in the Savior. It reminds us that we too must be “Seeing and Believing” (John 4:43-54)
