One (of many!) of the things that is remarkable about Jesus is that He was able to speak to all kinds of people, in all sorts of contexts, and always with the perfect words. Because Jesus is God Himself, that should not surprise us; but it certainly should move us to be in awe of our Savior. John recounts one such conversation when Jesus and His disciples were in Samaria. Jesus comes to a well in the middle of a hot day and meets a Samaritan woman. As He so often does, Jesus initiates the conversation and brings spiritual things to bear, even when the woman finds it hard to understand. We would do well to listen and seek the “Living Water” that Jesus promises.
