After giving the list of vices in verses 19-21, Paul gives the “Fruit of the Spirit.” This is what the Spirit works in the lives of believers. It is not a “fruit stand” from which we pick our favorite fruits but is a fruit basket which should accompany the life of every believer. These characteristics are the result of the Spirit’s work in the life of believers, uniting them to Christ, and enabling them to be Christ-like. We then are called to keep in step with the Spirit and pursue unity and fellowship with other believers.
