In Galatians 4:1-7, Paul gives us another metaphor for how the law under the old covenant served the people of God (he had given two others in chapter 3). In these verses, Paul shows how, in the natural world, while an heir is young, he is no better than a slave. And then by the end of this text, Paul has shown us what it really means be a very different kind of heir- an heir of God!
