The Crumbling Rock

June 20, 2021 Speaker: Jason Wegener Series: Mark

Topic: PM Service Passage: Mark 14:66–72

While Christ was facing his accusers, Peter was battling his own enemies. Even after his boastful claims that he will be the one faithful disciple- even if all others desert Christ- Peter wavers in his commitment when the pressure is on. Peter denies the Lord three times; the final denial coming with an oath. He immediately hears the rooster crow, is convicted, and weeps bitterly. Peter’s faith is sometime weak, and he often misunderstands Christ’s mission, but Peter knows the Lord, and his tears show a heart that is eager to repent and be restored. Even in Peter’s dark hour of denial, Christ looks upon him with mercy and compassion. This account is a touching reminder of Christ’s love and grace for His erring children.
