Cheerful Generosity

December 27, 2020 Speaker: Fred Greco Series: 2 Corinthians

Topic: AM Service Passage: 2 Corinthians 9:6–15

In 2 Corinthians 8 and 9, Paul gives us principles of Christian giving. He is not primarily concerned with economics or theories of how much more someone should have than another, but his focus is on how God's grace can be cultivated and manifested in the Christian through generosity and giving. Paul continues his instruction by giving us a picture of the attitude we are to have when we give. Giving is not throwing something away forever; it is like the farmer who sows his seed, expecting to reap a great harvest because he has been generous in sowing. But even more than that, the Lord grants to us by His grace hearts that rejoice in giving. The harvest that we reap through our generosity is not primarily material – it is a spiritual harvest that produces thanksgiving in us and brings glory to God. This is what it means to have “Cheerful Generosity” (2 Corinthians 9:6-15).
