The text points the reader to the beauty and meaning of the Lord’s Supper. Mark has chosen to arrange his telling of these events with Peter’s denial foretold immediately after the Passover meal. Reflecting on these two things together will help us to see how our Lord’s sacrifice on our behalf is even more meaningful alongside the failings of His followers! Christ is the faithful Lord and was set firmly on accomplishing all that He came to do. And even though his followers (then and now) fail, his body was broken and his blood was shed for their redemption, forgiveness, and restoration.
