Integrity in Generosity
December 6, 2020 Speaker: Fred Greco Series: 2 Corinthians
Topic: AM Service Passage: 2 Corinthians 8:16–24
Giving is a difficult subject to discuss in the Christian Church because far too often, those who are entrusted with what is given prove dishonest. It is a scandal for the cause of Christ when organizations and individuals seek to use the generosity of believers for their own enrichment. If we think that this is merely a 21st-century phenomenon, we are wrong. Paul had to deal with this issue in his ministry; a significant cause of the difficulty between him and the Corinthians was the accusation by Paul’s opponents that he was deceitful with offering funds. While we may regret that Paul was subject to such attacks, they do provide the ground for the Holy Spirit to educate us on the topic of handling the giving of God’s people. Paul clarifies that it is just as important to have “Integrity in Generosity” (2 Corinthians 8:16-24) as it is to have generosity itself.
