The Messiah's Birth

December 22, 2019 Speaker: Fred Greco Series: The Coming Messiah

Topic: AM Service Passage: Matthew 1:18–25

Perhaps one of the greatest miracles that the Bible describes is the coming to earth of the Son of God. Jesus Christ is the God-man, true God who took on humanity to save sinners from a death they deserved. Isaiah had prophesied His birth, telling of His names: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah had told us of His character: the One equipped to bring and spread blessing over all the earth. The predicted Messiah became a reality, breaking into history by being born of the Virgin. His birth was announced and celebrated by angels; His birth was a wonder to Mary, who could not completely understand, and yet she would say “let it be to me according to your word;” and Joseph, the Son of David, believed the angel who came to him, submitting to the Lord when Joseph named the child Jesus. Do you believe the unbelievable? Do you rest in the promise of the Messiah? Do you know the sweetness of forgiveness and fellowship with God because God became man in Jesus Christ? Then celebrate the great truth of “The Messiah’s Birth” (Matthew 1:18-25) and share that truth with a world in need.

I. Advent of the Messiah
A. The Divine Child
B. Believing the Unbelievable

II. Forgiveness from the Messiah
A. We Need a Savior
B. Jesus is the Savior

III. Fellowship with the Messiah
A. God is Always Present
B. God is Present in His Grace

Questions for consideration: (1) Why do you think the Messiah came to earth in the way that He did? What is the Lord trying to tell us through Jesus’ birth story? (2) Why is it important for you to think about sin at Christmas? What are the greatest barriers to thinking about sin? (3) What does “God with us” mean for you? How are you aware of God’s presence?
