The Difference the Resurrection Makes

Topic: AM Service Passage: Matthew 28:1–20
Matthew’s account of the resurrection is full of interesting details, but the main thrust of it is to show us that the resurrection was the event that changed the lives of the disciples forever. But it changed not only their lives, but the world itself, and our lives also! We cannot remain untouched by the resurrection, because it is God’s proof that the Lord Jesus Christ carried out His mission to redeem sinners. The resurrection is the stamp of approval on Jesus’ statement on the cross: “It is finished!” Matthew shows us “The Difference the Resurrection Makes” (Matthew 28:1-20).
I. It Liberates Believers
A. Dispelling Fear
B. Bringing Joy
II. It Hardens Sinners
A. In Their Unbelief
B. In Their Selfishness
III. It Focuses the Church
A. On the Worship of Christ
B. On the Mission of Christ
Questions for consideration: (1) What are your greatest fears? How can the resurrection of Jesus help you to face and conquer them? (2) Why did the chief priests react to the resurrection the way they did? Why do some people today react the same way? (3) If the resurrection does not move us to worship Jesus, what does that say about us? What does it say if we are not on mission for Jesus?
