Declaring God's Greatness

March 31, 2019 Speaker: Fred Greco Series: Ambassadors for Christ

Topic: AM Service Passage: Psalm 96:1–13

Last week we looked at our obligation as redeemed sinners to proclaim the way of reconciliation to God in the gospel. Now, this week we look at a central part of the gospel message – who God is and what He has done. The work of Jesus Christ is impossible to understand outside of the context of who God is: the holy, perfect, Creator of all things. Unless we see how far short we fall from the glory of God, we will not realize our need for a Savior. In Psalm 96, the Psalmist declares God’s glory before the world. He declares that there is none like God, that we can not substitute anyone or anything else for God, and that God is due all the praise and honor we can give Him. Christians should be ready to shout from the rooftops that the Lord God is great. An essential part of being ambassadors for Christ is to be continually “Declaring God’s Greatness” (Isaiah 12:3-4; Psalm 96).

Introduction: Declaration comes from salvation
I. Declare the Lord’s Great Works
A. The God of Salvation
B. The God Over All

II. Declare the Lord’s Great Nature
A. The Glorious God
B. The Holy God

III. Declare the Lord’s Great Return
A. Returning as Judge
B. Returning to Restore All Things

Questions for consideration: (1) Why should we be motivated to declare who God is to the people around us? What would stop us from doing that? (2) How do we go about declaring the exclusivity of God to a world that wants to believe there are many ways to God? (3) How is declaring God as judge an encouraging part of the gospel message? What would be the problem if God was not judge?
