Topic: AM Service Passage: Romans 8:28–30
What does the love of God look like? Is it a warm feeling we get? Or perhaps a sense of comfort and peace? The book of Romans focuses on the mighty and miraculous work of God redeeming sinners in Christ, and in the 8th chapter (the “Greatest Chapter in the Bible”) Paul encourages the children of God living in the midst of a sinful and hard world. He tells believers that the glory that awaits them is far greater than the sufferings they experience now; he tells them that the Holy Spirit helps them by interceding for them; and now in verses 28-30 he tells them that the Lord God not only has a great plan for them, but He also perfectly accomplishes that plan. Salvation is not an accident – it is not something we stumble into, although it can sometimes feel like that. No, salvation is the eternal purpose of God, worked out in time as God calls His people to Himself and conforms them into the image of Jesus Christ. God’s plan of salvation is perfect from beginning to end, from foreknowledge to glory. We call that “The Golden Chain of Salvation” (Romans 8:28-30).

Questions for consideration: (1) Why is it important that we know this promise of God? What gets in the way of us knowing it? (2) What is the greatest barrier to you understanding that God is in control of all things? Or that He works all things for the good of His children? (3) What can you make a part of your life to help you to know the promise is true, not just in general, but to you?
