Ignorance is No Excuse

Topic: AM Service Passage: Romans 1:18–20
The central theme of the Bible is the forgiveness that the Lord gives to sinners, through redemption by Christ. But what if a person simply responds with a shrug of the shoulders? What if a person does not believe that they need redemption? What if a person claims never to have known about God? Or about His character, His holiness? Paul addresses exactly those arguments in Romans 1. People may try to raise their ignorance of God and His law as an excuse for their behavior, but Paul says creation itself cries out that there is a God. Through the world that He has made, God shows us who He is. He is the One with whom we have to deal, and “Ignorance is No Excuse.” (Romans 1:8-20)
I. God Has Revealed Himself
A. To All in Creation
B. For Who He Is
II. People Reject the Revealed God

B. Resulting in Judgment
III. Not An Excuse, But An Answer
A. God Has Spoken in His Word
B. God Has Sent His Son
Questions for consideration: (1) What is it about creation that shows us that God exists? (2) Why do you think people fail to see creation as proof of a Creator? Is this a scientific issue or something else? (3) What does this passage tell us about how we should go about evangelism?
