The Just Shall Live By Faith

Topic: AM Service Passage: Romans 1:16–17
Far too often we spend our time thinking about our ability and power, wondering whether we have what it takes to resolve our problems. It is true that there are occasions when we can resolve the difficulty of the moment. But the greater problem is that these temporary and fleeting “victories” can trick us into thinking that we have what it takes, only to crash when life is too hard. The Apostle Paul reminds us that life is indeed too hard, but we can find the real and permanent solution to our real problem: sin. No matter who you are, or what you have done, there is a way for you to be right with God. God Himself has provided that way – His power is evident in that He provides a righteousness to those who believe that they cannot provide to themselves. Our hope is the gospel of God, received by faith. If you want hope, you must know that “The Just Shall Live By Faith.” (Romans 1:16-17)
I. The Gospel is the Power of God
A. The Gospel Brings Salvation
B. The Gospel Cannot Be Defeated
II. The Gospel is For Everyone
A. The Gospel is Universal
B. The Gospel Does Not Depend on You
III. The Gospel is a Matter of Faith
A. The Gospel is Received by Faith
B. The Gospel is Lived by Faith
Questions for consideration: (1) What would it look like to be ashamed of the gospel? How can you be tempted to such shame? (2) What are the implications of the universal scope of the gospel? What does that mean for you as you live in Houston? (3) How does receiving the gospel by faith help you to live it out by faith?
