The Spirit of Antichrist
December 10, 2017 Speaker: Fred Greco Series: 1 Samuel
Topic: AM Service Passage: 1 Samuel 22:6–23
Opposition is not something we like to think about. When we imagine our lives and what we will do, we do not tend to think about obstacles in our way. We especially do not want to think about people who will actively try and stop us from accomplishing our goals. Similarly, when we think about our commitment to Jesus Christ, we don’t want to dwell on those who would be hostile to our faith. While it is usually helpful to maintain a positive mindset and to concentrate on following Jesus, the Bible also warns us to be aware of those who have a deep-seated hatred of Jesus and His followers. The Bible calls them “antichrists” and gives examples throughout history, including Pharaoh, Herod, and also Saul. Saul has gone from the king of God’s people to a fearful, hateful figure whose every thought is of destroying the Lord’s anointed and His people. The veil has slipped away, showing us in Saul “The Spirit of Antichrist” (1 Samuel 22:6-23).
