Sola Fide

October 29, 2017 Speaker: Jason Wegener Series: 5 Solas of the Reformation

Topic: AM Service Passage: Romans 3:21–28

What does it mean to be Justified by Faith? Luther himself said that the doctrine of justification by faith alone was the doctrine on which the church stands or falls! This doctrine is truly the heart of the gospel. Scripture teaches us that we are made right before God by grace and it is received through faith. Christ is the object of that faith. To be justified is to have all our sins pardoned. Not only are our sins forgiven, but we are accepted as righteous in God’s sight. This is all because of the righteousness of Christ imputed to us and received by faith alone!! What a glorious truth!

I. What is Faith?
A. Faith is Confidence
B. Faith is an Instrument
C. Faith is a Gift

II. What Does Faith Do?
A. Faith in Christ Saves
B. Faith Alone Saves

III. Why Must We Have Faith?
A. We are Justified by Faith
B. We Walk by Faith

Questions for consideration: (1) If faith involves confidence, why must we have a proper understanding of who God is? (2) Why must we insist on ‘Faith Alone’? What are some things that we try to add to faith in our efforts to live the Christian life? (3) Do you agree that Justification by Faith Alone is the thing on which the church stands or falls? Why or Why not? What are some practical ways that we can fix our eyes on Jesus?
