Light in a Dark World

October 30, 2016 Speaker: Fred Greco Series: Ephesians

Topic: AM Service Passage: Ephesians 5:7–14

The Scriptures are full of instructions to believers about how they are to live. Believers are called to a life of holiness because of the calling of God, and the change that God has made in them. But there is also another reason why those who name the name of Jesus Christ are encouraged to live by God’s commands – it is because God’s people are the light of the world. Our great Triune God is at work redeeming all creation, bringing life out death, hope out of hopelessness. And the evidence of the work of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is the way in which the redeemed of the Lord live. We are to walk as children of light, bringing hope, truth, and love to the world. We are called to wake up, and be “Light in a Dark World” (Ephesians 5:7-14).

I. Changed From the Inside
A. Once Darkness
B. Now Light

II. Live as Light
A. Foundation
B. Application

III. Battle the Darkness
A. Expose the Darkness
B. Awake for Christ

Questions for consideration: (1) Why does Paul keep coming back to who we are when he gives instructions in what we are to do? What area of your life do you wish would change? What are the obstacles to that change? (2) What parts of your life has the Lord freed from darkness? How can you practically experience God’s will for you? (3) In what ways is the Church still asleep to the battle in the world? In what ways are you still sleepy? How can we be more awake?
