Spiritual Strength

Topic: AM Service Passage: Ephesians 3:14–21
What do you do when you feel weak and unable? What do you do when the world seems too much for you? The apostle Paul has an answer for us in the prayer that he expressed for the followers of Jesus Christ in Ephesus. Paul went before the Lord to pray that the Lord would strengthen the Ephesians with incomprehensible spiritual might. This kind of spiritual power only comes from knowing the true and living God – to be able to go to the heavenly Father from whom all fatherhood is named; to know and experience Jesus Christ by faith; and to have the power of the Holy Spirit within us. When we know and follow this great Triune God, we experience knowledge, strength, and abundant power for living. This is where our hope lies, trusting that the Lord will give us “Spiritual Strength” (Ephesians 3:14-21).
I. Foundation of His Prayer
A. God’s Glorious Work
B. God’s Glorious Self
II. Content of His Prayer
A. For Strength
B. For Love
C. For Fullness
III. Conclusion of His Prayer
A. God is Able
B. God is at Work
Questions for consideration: (1) Why do you think it is important for Paul to begin his prayer by thinking about the glory of God? What aspects of God’s glory do you most often think about?
(2) Paul prays for blessings that Christians have been promised, like strength and love. What are some promised blessings that struggle to experience every day? (3) In what ways are you tempted to think that you will never obtain certain blessings or that you are beyond God’s work to change you?
