The Last Supper

October 11, 2015 Speaker: Fred Greco Series: Luke

Topic: AM Service Passage: Luke 22:1–30

One of the hardest things to understand is how bad things can happen if God is good. Why doesn’t God just do what we think is right? This problem comes into view most clearly when we think about the death of our Lord Jesus Christ. As Jesus approached the cross, the plot to destroy him by His enemies and the devil appeared to gain more and more success. The Jewish leaders were sure that if they could just kill Jesus, they would be able to undo all He had accomplished. The devil was sure he would thwart the will of God. But neither took into account that the Lord remained completely in control and that the path to the cross was not a surprise for Jesus, but it was His plan for the salvation of His people and the glory of God. As we view the last days of Jesus, it is good for us to remember the purpose of Jesus and the glory that would follow, as we look in on “The Last Supper” (Luke 22:1-30).

I. The Plot Against Jesus (22:1-6)
A. The Conspiracy
B. The Betrayer
C. The Enemy

II. The Preparations of Jesus (22:7-22)

III. The Provision of Jesus

B. Setting the Standard
C. Giving a Kingdom

Questions for consideration: (1) Why did the Jewish leaders plot against Jesus? Why did Judas? What is there in your life to beware of that is similar? (2) What was Jesus’ focus in the last hours of His life? What do you tend to focus on in difficult situations? In what practical ways can you follow Jesus? (3) How do we see the futility of trying to be great in this passage?
