I. Paul received the Gospel gift of divine salvation!
A. Paul at first was a demon (vs. 13a).
B. Paul became an object of divine mercy (vs. 12-13).
C. Paul was a sinner saved by grace through faith in Christ alone (vs. 14-15).
II. Timothy received the Gospel gift of a divine calling!
A. Timothy was drafted into Apostolic service (vs. 18 & 3)
B. Timothy possessed supernatural gifts (see 1 Timothy 4:14a).
C. Timothy received a Presbyterian appointment (see 1 Timothy 3:14b).
III. Hymenaeus & Alexander received the Gospel gift of divine church discipline!
A. They rejected the true Christian faith & life (vs. 19b).
B. They suffered shipwreck of their faith (vs. 19c).
C. They were disciplined by the Apostle Paul (vs. 20b).
Questions for consideration: (1) How does Paul’s faithful saying in 1 Timothy 1:15 apply to you? (2) Who was the bigger sinner: Paul or Timothy? What about you? (3) How did Timothy’s divine calling effect his life? (4) How was church discipline good for Hymenaeus & Alexander? (5) Did Hymenaeus & Alexander feel like church discipline was good for them at first?
