What does the Kingdom of God mean to you? Often we think of the Kingdom in terms of how it will change the world in ways that we want. We can also view the Kingdom as something that is not a part of our present walking with the Lord. Jesus was asked by the Pharisees when the Kingdom of God would come because they were expecting a particular kind of Kingdom, a Kingdom that would bring change to governments and power structures. Jesus challenged their (and often our!) concept of the Kingdom by pointing them to the “already” nature of the Kingdom – the Kingdom exists and grows in every place where the rule of God is. At the same time, there is a “not yet” nature to the Kingdom; the Kingdom will not be manifested fully until all things are under the authority of King Jesus. Are you on the lookout? Do you desire to see “The Coming Kingdom”? (Luke 17:20-37).
I. What is the Kingdom?
A. What We Expect
B. What We Should See
II. When is the Kingdom Coming?
A. Kingdom Now
B. Kingdom Come
III. How Do We Respond to the Kingdom?
A. We Must Live in Light of the Kingdom
B. We Must Be Ready for the Kingdom
Questions for consideration: (1) What influences your expectations about the Kingdom of God? Are those things good or bad for your understanding? (2) What is the danger of seeing the Kingdom as totally future? As totally here and now? How can you avoid both errors? (3) What would the Lord say to you has to change in your life to live in light of verse 33?
