The Parable of the Sower

May 18, 2014 Speaker: Fred Greco Series: Luke

Topic: AM Service Passage: Luke 8:1–8:15

“The Parable of the Sower” (Luke 8:1-15) is one of the most well-known parables in the Bible. Our Lord Jesus told it so that we might both understand why some do not respond to God’s Word, and also so that we might focus ourselves on listening to the Lord. There are so many things that distract us from the Word of God, and without an intentional commitment to hearing the Lord, we are led astray. But the good news of the gospel is that when Jesus changes our hearts, the Word takes deep root and bears great fruit.

I. Popularity and Parables
A. Jesus’ Popularity
B. Jesus’ Communication of the Kingdom

II. Poor Soil
A. The Hard-Hearted
B. The Shallow-Hearted
C. The Entangled-Hearted

III. Proper Soil
A. A Heart Ready for the Word
B. A Heart Ready to Share the Word

Questions for consideration: (1) In what area of your life can you be hard-hearted to the Word of God? How can you prevent that? (2) What circumstances or things distract you from God’s Word? (3) What are you committed to that will help you to hold fast to the Word of God?
