Sins That Entangle

The Christian life is one of challenges. The great hope for the believer is to be like the Lord Jesus Christ, that “when He appears we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him as He is.” (1 John 3:2). But this hope is not realized at the time we first believed - the Lord has seen fit to make our sanctification a process in which we are engaged by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit brings us to life (vivification), but He also works through us to kill sin in our lives (mortification). As the great Puritan theologian John Owen put it: "make it [mortification] your daily work; be always at it whilst you live; cease not a day from this work; be killing sin or it will be killing you."
