The Mentality of an Officer

Topic: AM Service Passage: Matthew 20:20–28
Too often leadership in the Church follows the same principles and falls into the same patterns as leadership in other organizations. The Church is tempted to look to men as leaders because they display the kind of characteristics valued in the business world. This makes us think that what is valuable is self-confidence, a desire to lead others, or even a willingness to seize every opportunity to be in the spotlight. But Jesus gives us a different standard – one of humility and grace. He reminds us that He (the ultimate leader) came to serve and not to be served. He warns the Church against looking to the “nations” for its leadership principles. Jesus tells us to look for the proper, Biblical, “Mentality of an Officer” (Matthew 20:20-28)
