The Armor of God

December 11, 2016 Speaker: Fred Greco Series: Ephesians

Topic: AM Service Passage: Ephesians 6:14–17

The Christian life is a battle against the forces of evil, forces against which we are unable to resist in our natural strength. The obvious question that comes next is: how can we resist the cosmic powers, the spiritual forces of evil? The Lord tells us to be strong in His might, but what does that look like? The Scripture tells us that it looks like a warrior putting on armor and that armor is provided by the Lord. Paul tells us that there are several components of that armor covering us entirely. The Lord provides us with truth, righteousness, the gospel, salvation, and faith to enter into the battle. But we have more than defensive armor in this fight – we also have the mighty offensive weapon of God’s Word, which is stronger than any weapon the enemy can fashion. Are you ready for the fight? If so, put on “The Armor of God” (Ephesians 6:14-17).

I. The Soldier’s Dress
A. The Belt of Truth
B. The Breastplate of Righteousness
C. The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace

II. The Soldier’s Weapons
A. The Shield of Faith
B. The Helmet of Salvation
C. The Sword of the Spirit

III. The Soldier’s Charge

Questions for consideration: (1) Why is it so important that we understand the truth? What are you doing now in your life to know God’s truth? (2) How has the gospel helped you to stand firm against trials and attacks? In what ways are you presently sharing the gospel with others? (3) Why do you think Paul describes faith as something that protects the believer? How is your faith in Christ important to your everyday life?
