The Coming of the Son of Man

July 26, 2015 Speaker: Fred Greco Series: Luke

Topic: AM Service Passage: Luke 21:25–21:38

How do we stand up to a time of fear and confusion? The call of the believer in Christ is to look to the Lord in faith – but what does that mean? How does our faith help us in the everyday trials and difficulties? Jesus spoke to His disciples at the very end of His public ministry about how they could trust Him. He told them that it was a certainty that He would come again and that He would bring judgment. Judgment brings up images of punishment and wrongdoing, but for the believer in Jesus, it is a sign of hope and justice. Hope that all will once again be set aright, and justice that will vindicate those who have trusted Jesus to carry them through life. We are not to live lives absorbed in events around us, but we are to be aware and awake as we study to see “The Coming of the Son of Man” (Luke 21:25-38).

I. Response to His Coming (21:25-28)
A. Fear and Uncertainty
B. Confidence and Certainty

II. Trust in His Coming (21:29-33)

B. Knowing His Word

III. Prepare for His Coming (21:34-38)
A. Watch Yourself
B. Stay Ready

Questions for consideration: (1) How can confidence in the return of Jesus help us each and every day? (2) What steps can you take to be aware of events without being absorbed or enslaved to them? (3) What areas of your life do you need to be most watchful over? How can you be awake to them?
