Thanks Fred! (BTW...use of the word "fanboy" qualifies you as very cool, even if you don't have an Apple psyche. I don't have one either, but according to my kids, just carrying an iPhone has put me into an exclusive club. Woo hoo.)

Here are my favorite apps:
*Google Docs - I uploaded all kinds of things I might want to find at a moment's notice. The CCK directory for instance!
*Cozi - our family calendar of the moment. www.cozi.com It's free and lets me assign a different color to each person. I can enter shopping lists and it will text them to my phone.
*Woot - because you never know what might be on sale.
*Google Reader - to keep up with the blogs.
*BigOven - a gazillion recipes.
*Wordle - word scramble game
*Wurdle - like Boggle
*CrossLight - crossword puzzle
*Brain Toot - quick thinking games
*Brain Booster - same
*Subway Shuffle - great logic game. I paid for the full version!
*Shazam - hold your iPhone up to any music source and it finds and names the song.
*Koi Pond - lovely, relaxing, and guaranteed kid pleaser when you work in the nursery. :-)
*Holiday Music - paid $1.99 from the app store. It's like Pandora for Christmas. Hymns? Funny Songs? Island Christmas? All these stations and more.
*Urban Spoon and Yelp -both these are good for finding local restaurants, businesses, etc. located nearby
*ESV Bible: http://www.gnpcb.org/esv/mobile/ bookmark this page and add it to your list of apps. Free!

Thanks for posting this. I'm looking forward to exploring.

I would echo your comments, Fred. A theme running through the conference is "The Eclipse of God" which refers to the fact that to a large degree in the evangelical church in the USA today the focus of preaching, teaching and programs is Man, not God. We have been reminded that in our worship our goal is to go deep into the truth of a great, sovereign, holy and transcendent God, lift up praise that is worthy of Him and then go out into the world to proclaim His name to the nations. Sadly, today the church is preoccupied with growth in numbers (people and income) and trivializes the message of the gospel to what meets felt needs of the general population.
I believe we will return to Katy tomorrow with renewed energy to lift up the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I will miss being with you all this Sunday. As you know I am going to Covenant PCA in Lufkin to fill the pulpit for Pastor Mark O'Neill. Please pray for safe travels and God-honoring worship there. Lord willing I will see you all Sunday evening.

Hello Pastor Carroll. I am a member of Cornerstone EPC and I sent out the following email just a while ago, but could not find an email address for your church. Would you please post this announcement to your members if you find it suitable. Thank you. ---In His Name, Kathy Jorgensen

Katy Christian Ministries is in need of a several items effective immediately. Several folks outside of their routine service area who have been displaced are looking to KCM for help. There have been large crowds coming into Katy seeking assistance, since most of Katy has had power unlike the majority of Houston and the surrounding areas. Grocery stores, even in Katy as you may have found out now are being depleted of many essential items or they have had to throw away much food due to spoilage from power outages. Those folks on lower incomes especially do not have the cash on hand to pay for the items they need in open convenience stores taking cash only. People from outside of Katy are coming off of I-10 and Grand Parkway and are looking for assistance. When KCM starts to get more referrals in the near future, they will need to have replenished much of which has already been depleted from their pantry. They are also not getting their normal baked good items, due to power outages. Today, I spoke with the Food Pantry Coordinator of KCM and these are the items they are looking for at this moment.

•	Pop up canned goods (fruits, veggies, soup, beans, meat, tuna fish) ***no more green beans please*** Anything that could be cooked upon a gas stove or grill and may not require a can opener.
•	Rice, especially minute rice
•	Diapers (small sizes especially)
•	Baby Wipes
•	Toiletry items (soap, shampoo, hand sanitizer)
•	Paper goods (t.p., paper towels, paper plates, plastic utensils)
•	Instant pancake mix (that which requires water only)
•	Any other nonperishable items, although considered a luxury for now: (pudding cups, granola bars, fruit snacks, pasta/sauces, powdered juice mixes/gator aide, etc.)

If you are unable to drop these items off at KCM, feel free to bring them to the church fellowship hall and I will pick them up and deliver the donations on Wednesday. Call me if you have any further questions.

I pray that you are safe and sound with your family this morning. Please call, email or text message to let us know you are OK or if you have needs.

Power is back on at my house. I have fences down, branches down but, so far, the trees have apparently held up. Winds are still gusting strongly so it’s not over yet. We thank God for watching over us.

Candace, thanks for writing. I can understand how this appears contradictory and confusing. It is commonly held today that all religions are equally valid even if their teachings are mutually exclusive. The problem I have with some church leaders and with the pig race organizers is that the former confuse showing love with approving teaching which contradicts what Jesus Christ taught while the latter use unkind means to offend and intimidate those they wish to drive away. I wish these folks could disagree without being disagreeable. Nevertheless, while under our constitution we have the legal right to believe as we choose, the God of the Bible does not extend us that right. If the Bible is true then Islam is in error on many serious points. It is interesting that Islam does not hold that both its beliefs and those of the Christian gospel are equally true and valid. The church leaders who extended a welcome to the Islamic Association seemed to hold that Islam is just as true as Christianity. Here is where Dr. White and I disagree with them. Jesus Christ said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6 (ESV). The Apostle Paul wrote: "And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will." II Timothy 2:24-26 (ESV). There really is no place for either pig races or theological compromise in these passages. The believer should speak the truth in love. I hope this helps clarify the earlier post.

I am confused by your entry regarding the pig races. It seems as if you disagree with the idea of trying to humilate Muslim people with the races, but then you also support the efforts of Dr. White whose words, while understandable, are quite combative against a peaceful relationship with our Muslim neighbors and coworkers. I have heard quite a bit about these pig races, but did not know that the Christian community of Katy was getting involved. I personally believe wholeheartedly that the message of Christ was one of love and acceptance; however, I feel so often that the church focuses on all the things that Christianity does not accept or condone instead upon opening its arms of love to all people. I guess my question for you is, "Why are we talking about the deeper spiritual differences between Christianity and Islam when we should be encouraging each other to behave with love and kindness towards all people?"
