Worship Cancellations

By Pastor John Carroll | September 12, 2008

Dear members and friends of Christ Church,

The session has decided to cancel all activities of the church during this coming weekend with the approaching of Hurricane Ike.  This includes:

1.       The Men’s Breakfast scheduled for Saturday morning at the Davisons’  is cancelled and will not be rescheduled.  The men’s breakfast will meet again on October 11 at the home of the Dodds.

2.       Sunday morning worship and Christian Education classes at Taylor High School will not meet.

3.       Sunday evening worship at Cornerstone Church will not meet.

There are a number of factors which the session took into consideration.  Katy ISD will close all facilities beginning Friday and continuing through the weekend, thus, we could not meet at Taylor on Sunday.  We do not want to risk endangering any of our congregation as they try to make it to the previously scheduled activities.  There was a need to make a decision well in advance of the storm as it may be difficult or impossible to communicate if we lose power as a result of the hurricane.  Gas will be at a premium if power is lost.  For all these reasons we have cancelled these events on our calendar.  Any additional information we have will be posted on the website.  There will also be information on the office phone this weekend.

Depending on the weather you may want to worship with another nearby congregation this Sunday.  For example, Cornerstone Evangelical Presbyterian Church (1351 S. Mason Rd. Katy 77450) plans to have services on Sunday morning at 10:30 AM.  If Sunday school teachers wish to get information to their students (such as memory verses, etc.) you can email Fred or me and we will distribute it.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Fred or me or one of the elders.  May the Lord graciously watch over us all through the weekend ahead.

Hello Pastor Carroll. I am a member of Cornerstone EPC and I sent out the following email just a while ago, but could not find an email address for your church. Would you please post this announcement to your members if you find it suitable. Thank you. —In His Name, Kathy Jorgensen

Katy Christian Ministries is in need of a several items effective immediately. Several folks outside of their routine service area who have been displaced are looking to KCM for help. There have been large crowds coming into Katy seeking assistance, since most of Katy has had power unlike the majority of Houston and the surrounding areas. Grocery stores, even in Katy as you may have found out now are being depleted of many essential items or they have had to throw away much food due to spoilage from power outages. Those folks on lower incomes especially do not have the cash on hand to pay for the items they need in open convenience stores taking cash only. People from outside of Katy are coming off of I-10 and Grand Parkway and are looking for assistance. When KCM starts to get more referrals in the near future, they will need to have replenished much of which has already been depleted from their pantry. They are also not getting their normal baked good items, due to power outages. Today, I spoke with the Food Pantry Coordinator of KCM and these are the items they are looking for at this moment.

    • Pop up canned goods (fruits, veggies, soup, beans, meat, tuna fish) ***no more green beans please*** Anything that could be cooked upon a gas stove or grill and may not require a can opener.
    • Rice, especially minute rice
    • Diapers (small sizes especially)
    • Baby Wipes
    • Toiletry items (soap, shampoo, hand sanitizer)
    • Paper goods (t.p., paper towels, paper plates, plastic utensils)
    • Instant pancake mix (that which requires water only)
    • Any other nonperishable items, although considered a luxury for now: (pudding cups, granola bars, fruit snacks, pasta/sauces, powdered juice mixes/gator aide, etc.)

If you are unable to drop these items off at KCM, feel free to bring them to the church fellowship hall and I will pick them up and deliver the donations on Wednesday. Call me if you have any further questions.
